How to remove entries from Points modules - for example M31 Andromeda from Tully Galaxies
The below applies to all Points modules. Removing M31 Andromeda from the Tully Galaxies modules will serve as an example which generalizes to all Points entries.
To remove individual galaxies from the tully module, here are the steps you need to follow:
1. We always recommend not altering default modules, but instead copying them into a custom one first.
So, copy the folder tully from "C:\Program Files\SCISS\Uniview Theater 3.0\modules\tully" Into your "Custom Modules" folder.
2. To remove M31 Andromeda:
2.1. Edit the file 'tully.speck', commenting out lines:
69:
"texture 51 m31.dds", using the # character, so "#texture 51 m31.dds".
1964:
#0.51 -0.23 0.13 3 46.76 20.9 5.7 51 140 2557 0.616 0.688 -0.378 -0.506 0.715 0.491 # 0040+4059 NGC 224
2,2. Edit the 'tully.label' file, commenting out line 20:
"#0.51 -0.23 0.13 text M31 Andromeda"
Repeat step 2 for every additional galaxy you want to remove.
A tip for finding which line to remove in the 'tully.speck' file, is to search for the texture number given in the beginning of the file. So, for m31, the texture number assigned in line 69 was 51. search for " 51 ", and you will find the speck line referencing it, and can comment out also that.
The coordinates from the .label file will also correspond to those in the .speck file - in the M31 case, the values "0.51 -0.23 0.13".
Then, in your profile, stop using the default tully module, and use instead your own custom one, to see the results. Since they have the same name, they cannot both be included within the same profile at the same time.
If you would want to have both available at the same time within one profile, you'll need to rename your custom module.
1.
Edit 'tully.mod', renaming the 'object' from Tully to say TullyReduced (line 1), and alter also the line 4, "guiName /Extragalactic/Tully Galaxies", to "guiName /Extragalactic/Tully Galaxies Reduced".
2.
Edit 'module.definition', altering line 2 to "<name>Tully Galaxy Catalog Reduced</name>"
With the above changes, they can co-exist in a profile, and even be visible at the same time, should you wish.
