Dynamic Grid Centered on the Earth
Hello everyone! Here is an idea for my Uniview "wish list":
I am teaching our introductory astronomy course (a.k.a. ASTRO 101) in the planetarium for the first time this spring. We usually begin this course by showing the famous Eames video "Powers of Ten". Last week, instead of screening the video, I used Uniview to simulate the "Powers of Ten" experience. I found the dynamic grid, which I displayed in Cartesian format in units of AU, to be extremely useful for this. Thank you for this grid!
Now, here is my idea: The dynamic grid in Uniview is currently centered on the Sun. In future versions of Uniview, would it be possible to include a second dynamic grid that is centered on the Earth? This would make for a smoother transition since I begin "Powers of Ten" with a magnified view of the University of Arizona campus in Tucson on a satellite image layer (from Geoscope) on the Earth. At present, once I expand the view to the scale of the Earth & Moon, then I must target the Sun in order to make use of the dynamic grid, which I am unable to make use of up until this scale since I have been targeted on the Earth.
Also, having the option to display the dynamic grid in units of meters would make the entire presentation smoother yet. (At present, I tell my students to view 1 AU as approx. 10^11 m.)
Just a suggestion...thanks for your consideration!

There are Earth centered coordinates now, they are set up using Earth radii so hopefully they would be helpful. To enable these you need to select Earth properties and go to the third tab labeled "Markers" from there you can choose to add a Cartesian Grid or a Radial grid. Again this is just in Earth radii so you would have to explain the unit of measurement.
We will see what we can do about changing how the dynamic grid shows up without having to edit code.
